SCREENING OF LAGAAN

As learning from various mediums of expressions has been an integral part of education. Lagaan was screened at NSB-NIILM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, New Delhi during its orientation programme “ PLAN “ (pre launch activities at NSB-NIILM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS) for the July batch 2009-2011.

The movie Lagaan was screened as it delivers many things — leadership, negotiation, team building and courage to name a few. But above all the movie was about project management by a first-time project leader.
A project is something with a definite beginning and a definite end, with a clear objective to achieve with a limited number of resources. In the film, the project is to beat the English cricket team in three months, using whatever resources (including human) that are locally available.
The main focus of the movie was how Project Leads play different roles depending on the situation. Some roles that project leader in Lagaan are: information provider, ideas and opinions shaper, taper and developer of potential, provider of emotional, physical and social support.
Screening of the movie ended with a discussion on the learning from the movie. This encouraged the students to develop a different perception regarding the films.

CHAK DE
The movie was screened with the main focus of delivering the lessons on team work, motivation, the multi- cultural diversity and its attendant problems, the work place politics and finally the triumph of ethics and commitment of the team over all odds.

GURU
Guru - a story of a young man in a small village of Idhar in Gujarat, who dreams big right from the start and has to face several hurdles and fight an obstinate system all alone to see his dreams come true.
Mantra for the winnable managers of tomorrow from this movie was that - those who do not dream do not achieve anything in life. He does reach the top, ultimately.

ROCK ON
Rock On traverses the simple 'spirit of winning' path. There's a committed individual or a team who can't make it big for the first time. Life gives a second chance and this time is the phase to prove credentials.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
Mantra from the film: never to lose faith in ourselves, our abilities and in mankind. Living in today's world of diminishing integrity, this just seems to be the reiteration that we all need. After all, it is this single-minded dedication to what we believe in, especially when we are down in the dumps, which will help us ultimately survive the day.

The movie through the character Chris Gardner taught not to hanker over the trivial pursuits of life, but to instead focus on the bigger dream of being happy.

The movie through its characters communicated that no matter how hard the road may be, to never, ever take our eyes off the final goal. And instead of blaming our hopeless situations on theirs and throwing in the towel, we must make an effort to be thankful for all that we have, however meager and useless it may appear to be at that time. At the end of the day, it is this pursuit of happiness that makes us the people we are, humbled by our experiences and thus more receptive to the pleasures of happiness.
